Full or Partial Rewire
There are no set guidelines as to when a property will require a full or partial rewire. Just because your wiring is old, it doesn’t mean that it is unsafe. Many factors can affect the wear and tear of your electrical installation, including the materials used and how your property has been used.
If a property has wiring that is over 25 years old, the chances are that it will probably need it’s electrical wiring upgrading, at least partially, in order to bring the property in line with the current official safety standards.
Unless it is certain than an electrical rewire is necessary, it would be wise to have an electrical installation condition report completed on your home to establish the condition of the electrical installation.
A partial rewire is where a section or circuit of your electrical installation is replaced or upgraded – sometimes it is only necessary to renew a certain circuit or even just a part of that circuit.
All full or partial electrical installations deteriorate over time due to a number of factors, i.e. damage, wear, tear, corrosion, excessive electrical loading, ageing and environmental influences.
The rules and regulations for full or partial rewire electrical installations change over time and what was once deemed safe may no longer be the case.
Unfortunately in many cases, full or partial rewire alterations are made to electrical installations by previous owners, or by unqualified people which are far from safe, these modifications are often unknown to the present owner.
